How serial dating works
From 1924, Singer issued serial numbers in lettered batches — each batch was allotted to a model on a specific date and given a starting ("commencing") serial number. Your machine's date is the batch whose starting serial is the highest one at or below your serial, within the same letter prefix. This tool checks your serial against 1,451 of those allotment records.

Where is the serial number on a Singer?
On the machine bed — to the right of the needle plate, or on the front of the base. Letter-prefix serials (1924+) look like AF338121. Don't confuse it with the model/part numbers stamped elsewhere.
My serial has no letter — why no result?
Singers made before about 1924 used numbers only (no letter prefix) and follow a separate, earlier dating chart not yet included here. This tool currently covers the 1924–1947 letter-prefix era — which includes all Featherweight 221/222 machines.
